I created this series to showcase the creative and technical achievements of music videos by inviting directors to breakdown their craft. I paired rear-projection and an overhead camera rig to film the directors drawing directly on the video.
I developed and directed Genius’ live-streamed, interactive concerts with artists The Kid LAROI, Ty Dolla $ign, Tate McRae and more. For this project, I built a custom, remote-first, live-streaming workflow using Amazon Web Series EC2 cloud computing.
I directed huge, career-spanning interviews with Mariah Carey, T-Pain and Nicki Minaj. With a live audience, host Rob Markman drew deep into the artists’ background and showed how they changed music.
In addition to editing episodes with Charlie Puth, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X and more, I created the template and workflow for Genius’ flagship show, used on 1,000+ episodes. This involved best practices for chroma-keying in Davinci Resolve, the round-trip to Premiere Pro and the development of motion graphics assets that simplified and standardized creation.Watch Charlie Puth break down “Attention”
For this campaign, Genius’ tech team built an online soundboard for a beat-making competition in partnership with Fruit by the Foot. I directed and edited the final video that brought together super-producer Zaytoven with contest winner Masta Pharaoh.
In January 2019, I spent three weeks in Cuba exploring the country and meeting people. While there, I met a group of skaters who were celebrating the 11th year of their club, “23 y G.” With some footage of their anniversary competitions and a trip to their DIY skatepark outside the city, I created this short documentary.
